Saving the World Through Art

It is innate for us humans to appreciate the beauty of nature. And it is our fascination to the wonder of nature that we copy and mimic it in a form we call art. Art is one of the things that separate between us and other animals because we humans can make and understand art.

From mimicking nature, art has evolved through time into a very wide variety. It is dependent on the material available and the inspiration one can get from the surroundings. A very notable example of “new art” is our use of junk as a material to create art. Junk as in bottles, newspapers, plastic, paper, and anything which we thought would not be of any use anymore.

Hundreds of years ago, junk is junk. No one would dare to pick them up and appreciate its potential to become something interesting and beautiful. Art before is just still-life painting, woodcraft, rich architecture, fine music, and excellent poems. Everything should be of the highest degree, not junk. Trashes did not have of any use before, because the world was so fine they actually did not care about junk.

Now hundreds of years later, when people realize that the world is becoming dirtier as trash and junk increase as if they multiply themselves, we learn that we have to do something. So we do things such as recycling, and re-using garbage. One impeccable idea that emerged is to make trash a material for art. Lanterns made of plastic cups became popular, paper mache is also a perfect example of making use of old newspapers, spoons and forks as chandelier is also an example of fine art from trash. And through crafty hands and brilliant ideas, thousands of other junk art have been made and were shown to the public and sometimes provide money to the creators. And when we saw it, we realize it is good.

We do this not because we humans are naturally appreciate beauty, but we do it for a cause. The world needs to be saved, and we’re saving it through the most artistic and creative way that we can.
