During the time of film, owning a single-lens reflex camera is a huge investments that only those who are willing to earn money from this business can actually make. Because of the huge costs associated with the camera itself and the dozens of rolls of films that one has to purchase, an SLR camera becomes less accessible for people. Films themselves are already expensive. Fast forward to year 2010 and you can already see the proliferation of digital single-lens reflex camera or DSLR. Entry-level cameras of this type are way cheaper than what entry-level cameras of other types used to be. Now, it is as if everybody who cares has his/her own DSLR, making everybody a photographer of his/her own. While this is good news for the camera owners, cheap entry-level DSLR cameras actually dilute the market for photographers, something that professional photographers actually feel. In formal events, for example, can you still say who is the official photographer and who are those who just brought their own cameras? Tough, eh? But then again, they say that just because you have a DSLR camera does not you mean that you are automatically a photographer already. You're just, well, a DSLR camera owner. More important than the manual controls that you will have you have over the film, it is important that you have basic grasp of photography, knowing about the right angles and the right lighting. Expert photographers can make shots taken from point-and-shoot cameras priceless. Thus, having a good picture is not entirely a matter of good equipment at all. Good photographers know their photography basics very well. Has the introduction of the cheap DSLR cameras introduced anything beneficial to the art? It sure does. At least today, people have become more aware about photography, and that is something to feel great about. I did want to have one of these DSLR cameras once, but then I thought that I'm not too good for it so I should be comfortable for now with my point-and-shoot. You can talk about...
