A lot of professions have their set of tools that they should understand carefully if they want to bring out the best results. For example, a carpenter has to be well-familiarized with his/her electronic tools to make them work effectively. In a similar manner, painters (in the art sense) have to choose the best paint brush for each project to make the best output. If you are a beginner painter, this can be easily overlooked. It can be a daunting task to consider which paintbrush to use for your particular artwork. There's the shape of the brush, the material used for each strand of the brush, how these strands are bunched together, and their length all affect the quality of your artworks. As a general rule, square-ended brushes, those whose length are twice the size of their width, are used for backgrounds. There's little fine control that you can exert with square-ended brushes. Contrast this with the Filbert's shape, which has an oval tip and can provide you with more control over the strokes that you make. The round-tipped brushes provide the most control of them all and are perfect for working with little details in limited spaces. The material of your brush also plays a vital role and are largely dependent on the quality of your paint. Normally, for oil-based paintings, animal hair is used for the brush. Mixed nylon and polyester paint brushes are typically used for almost anything else, with polyester brushes used for latex paints because of their relative stiffness. This is relevant because the material of your paint will hold to the brush type that they are most suited for. The more paint that your brush can hold cleanly, the better. You should not allow your paint brush to absorb so much more paint that what it can hold. Conversely, it would be time consuming to just have so little paint.
