Faux Painting as a Home Business

Thank author of this post/comment

Faux painting is a blanket term used to describe a couple of decorative painting techniques for walls in homes, commercial establishments, and such. It was initially described as being faux because these techniques were once used to mimic actual materials like marble, wood, and similar materials using ordinary paint.

It takes a while before you will be able to master this craft, but once you are able to reach a certain level of mastery, you can turn it into a very profitable business. Some even say that the profits that can be derived from this business can be as high as three times that of an ordinary interior design painting business. Mix your artistic skills with good business sense and you can charge competitive rates in no time.

You don't have to be a Michelangelo to be able to go faux. You don't even always have to come out with results that are of mural-quality. As a minimum requirement, you could just probably be an expert at a few faux painting techniques, such as rag painting, marbleizing, graining, Trompe l'oeil, Venetian plaster, color wash, and strie.

What's even better than the income is the fact that you can work at home while managing your faux painting business. This is because you only have to maintain contacts, which you can get as you serve more and more customers. The industry also has a high turnover, while knowledge of ordinary interior design painting can always increase your work at home income. Best of all, you get to mix both work and your passion in one enterprise. The only drawback I can think of right now is the fact that pricing faux painting services can be tricky, because customers might want you to repeat painting over and over again when they are not satisfied.

In any case, if you think you're good enough to give faux painting a go, then go ahead. Who knows, you might actually stay for a very long time in this industry.
