I am of the impression that companies nowadays are starting to veer away from your traditional cubicle-laden workplaces to workplaces that freely allow its workers to be creative and feel-at-home with their environment. It is not abnormal to hear people complain that they feel like in a prison whenever they are in an office. So, in response, a lot of companies are trying to make more use of the spaces and provide amenities that make the workplace a more enthusing place to be in.
You can achieve this through a number of ways, but putting art in there is certainly one of the most effective. Putting paintings, sculptures, or any other art form is beneficial because of two reasons: your employees feel better with their environment while at the same time giving off a good impression to potential clients and potential employees. If you are in the creative business, artworks also stimulate creativity in employees. The reception is the very first place where you have to concentrate. This is practically where all the visitors and would-be employees come in. If your company produces some tangible products, you could turn them into works of art and display them inside the office. Have a professional photographers take photos of your products and turn them into artistic images. This way you could highlight the works of your company and at the same time provide art pieces for the office. You can use oil painting but the easiest so far to produce are professionally created photographs. Elsewhere in the office, you also have to remember to make good use of color. Certain colors do inspire people, make them calm, or make them happy. On the other hand, certain colors also make your employees more agitates or more bored. Work on this with your interior designer to see what you can possibly work on. What we normally do in the office I work in is to have a photography contest every three months. Every quarter there will be a theme for which entrants may submit an entry. For example, for this quarter the theme will be nature shots. The entrants will then be subjected to an anonymous vote, the winner of which will get some prize and will have his/her work printed and hanged in the office.
